Korea Communications Commission stalls YTN shareholder hearing

Discussions regarding the potential cancellation of the approval for Eugene E&T as the largest shareholder of YTN have stalled. During a meeting of the Korea Communications Commission on August 21, the proposal to hold a hearing for Eugene E&T was postponed due to a lack of a quorum.

Two non-standing commissioners, Choi Soo-young and Lee Sang-geun, opposed the hearing and left the meeting, arguing that the commission should wait for final judicial rulings from the Supreme Court before taking administrative action. They expressed concerns that the hearing might serve as a predetermined procedure to justify a decision to revoke the approval.

In contrast, Vice Chairman Ko Min-soo and other commissioners argued that the hearing is a necessary administrative step to ensure due process and allow the party to defend its rights. The commission requires at least four members to be present to conduct official business, and with only three members remaining after the walkout, the agenda could not be formally tabled.
