Korea Football Association restructures K League referee evaluation committee

The Korea Football Association (KFA) has announced a restructuring of the Professional Referee Evaluation Committee to enhance the fairness and reliability of K League officiating. The new seven-member committee will include a significant shift in composition, with non-referee members—such as coaches and match commissioners—making up more than 40% of the group.

The committee is responsible for the weekly analysis of major K League officiating decisions, determining whether calls were correct or incorrect, and establishing the annual ratings used for referee promotion and relegation. The restructured body will consist of four members from the KFA, including professional instructors and analysts, and three members from the Korea Professional Football League, including technical director Kim Ho-young.

To improve transparency, the KFA will implement ‘decision briefings.’ These briefings will explain the reasoning behind major officiating decisions, citing specific match rules and technical processes to help fans and stakeholders better understand the outcomes and reduce misunderstandings.
