Korea Heritage Service proposes 1.66 trillion won budget to boost K-Heritage

The Korea Heritage Service has announced a 2027 budget proposal of 1.6645 trillion won, representing an 11.2% increase from the previous year. The budget aims to transform cultural heritage management from simple preservation into a high-value industry through the integration of advanced technologies like AI and robotics.

Key initiatives include the ‘National Heritage Stay’ project, which will renovate 10 traditional houses into modern accommodations to encourage longer tourist stays, and the ‘National Heritage Comma Project’ to create rest areas at historical sites. To boost global interest, the agency is targeting 7 million foreign visitors to Korean palaces by enhancing services at sites like Gyeongbokgung Palace and developing specialized cultural products.

The budget also prioritizes disaster prevention and safety, allocating funds for intelligent disaster response systems and the maintenance of royal tombs and palaces. Additionally, the plan emphasizes regional revitalization by distributing tourism demand away from the capital and strengthening international cooperation through UNESCO-related projects and cultural diplomacy.
