Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power to develop high-temperature electrolysis ecosystem

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) is launching an initiative to foster an industrial ecosystem for high-temperature electrolysis using process heat from nuclear power plants. To achieve this, KHNP held a preparatory meeting in Daejeon to establish a consultative body focused on developing Korean-style Solid Oxide Cells (K-SOC).

The initiative aims to create a collaborative platform involving industry, academia, and research institutes to cover the entire process from research and development to demonstration and commercialization. By utilizing nuclear process heat to supply energy for the electrolysis of steam, the project expects to increase the efficiency and economic viability of clean hydrogen production. KHNP will act as the anchor company to guide technical development, while the Korea Institute of Ceramic Technology will serve as a central hub for supplying core industrial technologies.
