Korea launches ‘Next Run Travel Festa’ to promote running-based tourism

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization are launching the ‘Next Run Travel Festa’ this October. This inaugural event aims to transform running competitions into stay-over tourism models by combining athletic events with local travel experiences.

The festival features two primary events: ‘R1 2026 Jeonju’ (October 17–18), held in collaboration with the YouTube channel ‘Sean and Together’, and the ‘Bomun Night Run with Wally’ (October 31–November 1) in Gyeongju, which utilizes the Universal character Wally.

To encourage longer stays, the Korea Tourism Organization is offering discounted packages that bundle race entry with accommodation. Specific programs include carb-loading cooking shows and recovery tours in Jeonju, as well as stamp tours and hot spring relaxation trips in Gyeongju. Additionally, a partnership with Lotte ON provides discounts on run-trip products and running gear.
