Korea University Guro Hospital joins K-NEXUS AI cancer care project

A research team led by Professor Seo Won-jun of Korea University Guro Hospital is participating in the ‘K-NEXUS’ project, an initiative under the Korean ARPA-H Project. The project aims to develop an AI-based integrated network for regional cancer management to bridge the gap between local medical institutions and major hospitals in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Led by Kangwon National University Hospital, the K-NEXUS project seeks to create a collaborative platform that uses artificial intelligence to facilitate multidisciplinary cooperation (AI-MDT). The system is designed to analyze and summarize patient medical records, allowing for smoother information sharing between doctors and ensuring continuity of care for cancer patients outside of the capital region.

The research focuses on designing operational systems for multidisciplinary consultation, verifying the clinical appropriateness of AI-provided information, and standardizing medical data to ensure compatibility with electronic medical record (EMR) systems. The goal is to reduce the burden on regional patients who currently must travel long distances to metropolitan hospitals for specialized cancer treatment.
