Korea Zinc conducts marine cleanup at Ulsan's Pyeongdong Beach

Korea Zinc's Onsan Smelter conducted its second ‘Companion Beach’ cleanup activity of the year at Pyeongdong Beach in Ulsan. Employees focused on collecting marine debris, including plastics, household waste, and discarded fishing gear.

In addition to the cleanup, the company performed monitoring of waste generation. Using data from a previous session in September, where 46.9 kg of waste was collected, the team analyzed the types and trends of debris entering the beach. This initiative is part of a campaign led by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, where organizations adopt specific beaches for regular protection.

Korea Zinc has been involved with Pyeongdong Beach since adopting it in September last year. The company is also supporting a ‘Public-Private Sea Forest Project’ through a 100 million won contribution. This project, in collaboration with Ulsan Metropolitan City and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, aims to restore the marine ecosystem through seaweed expansion, species protection, and biological monitoring until June 2027.
