Korea Zinc discusses semiconductor sulfuric acid supply with US firms

Korea Zinc participated in the SEMICON West 2026 exhibition in the United States to discuss the supply of high-purity semiconductor sulfuric acid with major global chipmakers. The company held meetings with Micron, Intel, and GlobalFoundries to explore local supply opportunities in the US market.

Micron expressed support for Korea Zinc’s plan to establish local production facilities in the US, with discussions extending to other materials like germanium. Intel indicated it would review supply possibilities following sample testing of products produced at Korea Zinc’s planned US facilities. GlobalFoundries showed positive interest based on the company’s existing supply history in Singapore.

Additionally, Korea Zinc explored supply routes for TSMC’s Arizona plant through Sumitomo Chemical and reviewed existing cooperation with Taiwan’s Kanto-PPC. The company aims to utilize its ‘Project Crucible’ initiative to build an integrated smelter in the US that includes a production line for ultra-high-purity semiconductor sulfuric acid, which is essential for wafer cleaning processes.
