Korean Actor Yoo Yeon Seok Loses Tax Appeal, Faces Additional Scrutiny
Actor Yoo Yeon Seok’s appeal against a tax assessment of about ₩3 billion (≈US$2.1 million) was dismissed by a tax tribunal. The assessment stemmed from an earlier ₩7 billion (≈US$4.9 million) bill issued to his one‑person agency, Forever Entertainment, after the National Tax Service concluded the agency did not effectively support his entertainment activities.
Yoo’s agency, King Kong by Starship, said the dispute arose from differing interpretations of tax law and that related procedures were not yet fully concluded. The actor had paid the reduced amount before filing the appeal, which was rejected last month. Public reaction has compared Yoo’s handling of the case with fellow host Yoo Jae Suk, who was praised for promptly paying his taxes, leading to criticism of Yoo Yeon Seok’s approach.
