Korean Air receives approval for Asiana Airlines mileage integration
Korean Air has received final approval from the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) regarding its plan to integrate mileage programs with Asiana Airlines. Under the approved structure, all new miles earned will be credited directly to Korean Air’s SKYPASS program once the integrated airline launches.
Existing Asiana Airlines miles will be transferred to Korean Air but will be maintained as a separate balance within member accounts for a period of 10 years. Customers can choose to keep these miles separate to use for award tickets and upgrades based on Asiana’s current conversion tables, or convert them into SKYPASS miles at any time.
Elite status for Asiana Airlines members will be automatically matched to the corresponding Korean Air elite level. To support this transition, Korean Air is introducing a new tier called ‘Morning Calm Select,’ which includes SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits.
The conversion rate for miles will follow a dual structure: miles earned through flights will convert at a 1:1 ratio, while miles earned through partners will convert at a 1:0.82 ratio. Korean Air has committed to ensuring the availability of award seats remains at or above pre-merger levels, specifically aiming to exceed the highest availability seen on long-haul routes to Europe, America, and Oceania over the last decade.
