Korean firm to ship Jujuy lithium via Argentina's Corrientes port

A Korean company plans to begin exporting lithium produced in Jujuy province through the Port of Corrientes in Argentina starting in November or December. The initial shipment will consist of 70‑80 containers per month, with the volume expected to grow if the pilot proves successful.

According to Adolfo Escobar, director of River Transport and Ports of Corrientes, the lithium will be moved by road from Jujuy to Corrientes, stored at the terminal, and then transferred onto river vessels for export. Using the Corrientes port could cut the over‑land haul to Buenos Aires by roughly half, reducing truck mileage and associated costs. The port is conducting studies to adapt its facilities for safe handling and storage of the mineral.
