Korean food brands expand in Indonesia's halal market

Premium Korean pork‑BBQ chain Hanam Dwaeji House opened its fifth outlet in Surabaya, Indonesia, marking its 23rd overseas store. The new venue is located in the upscale Fairway In Mall and targets shoppers seeking a combined retail‑dining experience. The company plans further openings in Malaysia’s Penang and Indonesia’s Bali and Bandung before year‑end, aiming to strengthen its presence across Southeast Asia.

Paris Baguette secured halal certification for all 23 of its Indonesian stores and for its entire Singapore network, after earlier approval in Singapore. The bakery also operates a production facility in Johor, Malaysia, to serve the regional halal market. Other Korean food firms, including Samyang Foods and BBQ, are pursuing halal credentials and expanding into the Middle East and Brunei, reflecting a broader industry push into the global halal market estimated at $2 trillion and serving roughly 2 billion Muslims.
