Korean Intern Resident Association launches medical volunteer group
The Korean Intern Resident Association (KIRA) and Joseph Clinic have launched the second cohort of the Resident Medical Volunteer Group to support vulnerable populations in medical blind spots.
Following the successful first cohort, this second group aims to establish a more regular and sustainable medical service system. From October 2026 through July 2027, volunteers will participate in medical services every Tuesday and Thursday. These activities include in-clinic treatment at Joseph Clinic and visiting medical services for residents in the crowded room districts (jjokbangchon) near Seoul Station.
Joseph Clinic, a charitable medical institution founded in 1987, provides free outpatient care and home visits to those unable to access medical insurance or traditional hospital settings. KIRA leadership stated that the initiative provides young doctors with opportunities to practice social responsibility and solidarity by directly engaging with neighbors in need.
