Korean Investment Securities and OKX Ventures become top shareholders of Coinone
Korean Investment Securities (Hana Investment & Securities) and OKX Ventures each acquired roughly a 20% stake in South Korea's cryptocurrency exchange Coinone, joining founder Choi Myung‑hoon (30.36%) and Com2uS Holdings (24.54%) as the platform's three largest shareholders. The deal involved the purchase of existing shares held by Com2uS and the issuance of new shares, completing the investment at a contract signing in Seoul's Yeouido district on May 29.
The investors said the partnership aims to blend traditional finance with blockchain technology, build a digital‑asset ecosystem, and develop new products such as token‑securities and stable‑coin services. The move reflects a broader trend in South Korea, where major financial institutions are rapidly securing stakes in domestic crypto exchanges ahead of anticipated launches of won‑denominated stablecoins, token‑securities markets and multi‑asset “super‑app” platforms. Earlier this year, firms such as Mirae Asset, Hana Investment, and Samsung Securities took stakes in other exchanges, signaling an industry‑wide push to dominate the emerging digital‑asset market.
