Korean Medical Association seeks to establish national Doctors Day

The Korean Medical Association (KMA) has initiated discussions to establish a domestic Doctors Day to reinforce the mission and social responsibility of medical professionals. The move aims to foster unity across different generations, regions, and medical specialties while increasing public trust and respect for the profession.

To mark the 118th anniversary of the association, which traces its origins back to the Physician Research Group founded on November 15, 1908, the KMA is also hosting an SNS event titled “Doctors by the People, 118 Years Together.” The event, open to both members and the general public, runs from October 30 to November 15.

The association plans to gather opinions from the medical community regarding the necessity, date, and operational direction of the new holiday, citing international examples such as Taiwan, where Doctors Day is observed on November 12.
