Korean National Police Agency arrests two fugitives in South America
Following its recent admission as an observer to AMERIPOL, the Korean National Police Agency has successfully apprehended two fraud suspects who had fled to South America.
One suspect was arrested at an airport in Colombia and subsequently returned to South Korea via Madrid, Spain. The second suspect, who had been residing in Venezuela, was intercepted while attempting to travel through Colombia toward Madrid. Extradition proceedings for the latter are currently underway.
The agency noted that this achievement is a result of enhanced international security cooperation, building upon previous Memorandums of Understanding signed with the police agencies of Brazil and Chile. The Korean National Police Agency intends to continue strengthening its collaborative networks with various regional organizations, including Europol and Afripol, to combat transnational crime.
