Kim Jong-cheol, formerly the Gyeongnam Police Agency head, has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Agency and will serve as the acting Commissioner. In his first meeting with the national police leadership, Kim issued a public apology for recent failures, specifically citing the Jang Yun-gi investigation and the Jeju missing persons case, where police were accused of mishandling or concealing information.

To address the crisis of public trust, the police announced the establishment of a 'Police Reform Task Force' to overhaul organizational culture and investigation procedures. Additionally, the reshuffle saw Ko Beom-seok appointed as the head of the Seoul Police Agency and Yu Seung-ryeol as the head of the Incheon Police Agency. Notably, Go Pyeong-gi, who was previously slated for promotion, was instead reassigned to a lower-ranking position following the controversy surrounding the Jeju missing persons case.
