Korean Neurosurgical Society highlights AI spinal research and new clinical data

At the 40th Annual Meeting of the Korean Neurosurgical Society, significant advancements in spinal health research and pharmaceutical treatments were presented.

A research team led by Professor Park Seong-bae of Boramae Medical Center received the ‘Woori Academic Award’ for their study on enhancing MRI analysis for degenerative cervical myelopathy. The research utilized an interactive learning model where human input—specifically manual clicks—is used to refine AI-driven segmentation of the spinal cord and canal. This hybrid approach improved accuracy by 6.4% for the spinal canal and 11.7% for the spinal cord compared to fully automated models.

Additionally, Hanmi Pharmaceutical presented clinical evidence for its musculoskeletal treatments. Professor Choi Il discussed the clinical value of Naxozol, a combination of naproxen and esomeprazole, noting it is the only product of its kind in Korea with specific approval for low back pain. Professor Ham Chang-hwa also presented global Phase 3 clinical trial results for Obodence, a denosumab biosimilar, confirming its efficacy and safety for osteoporosis treatment in patients, including Koreans.
