Korean Society for Patient Safety holds conference on medical safety

The Korean Society for Patient Safety held its 23rd regular academic conference at Yonsei University to discuss creating a safe medical environment through patient participation. The conference focused on two primary themes: the enactment of the Patient Basic Act and the 2026 World Patient Safety Day theme, ‘Safe healthcare for non-communicable diseases’.

Experts emphasized that patient safety should be achieved through systemic learning and participation rather than individual punishment. Discussions highlighted the need for a balance between patient rights and duties, as well as the importance of involving patients in the entire process of managing non-communicable diseases rather than focusing solely on isolated treatments.

During the event, Professor Kim So-yoon of Yonsei University was elected as the next president of the society, with a two-year term beginning in 2027.
