Korean Society of Heart Failure seeks inclusion in national policy

The Korean Society of Heart Failure is calling for heart failure to be explicitly included in the enforcement decrees of the amended Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Management Act. During the ‘Heart Failure Seoul 2026’ symposium, officials noted that while the law was recently amended, heart failure currently lacks clear status as a national management target, leaving it in a policy blind spot.

Lee Hae-young, a policy director of the society and professor at Seoul National University Hospital, highlighted that the absence of heart failure from specific enforcement decrees hinders long-term national planning and resource allocation. He noted that heart failure management is critical for improving outcomes in myocardial infarction patients and reducing mortality rates.

Additionally, the society is working to update clinical guidelines using the international GRADE methodology to improve the quality of evidence-based care. The symposium, which drew participants from 22 countries, serves as a platform for international medical exchange and discusses advancements in treating various types of heart failure.
