Korean Society of Nephrology launches hemodialysis advancement task force

The Korean Society of Nephrology has launched the Korea Hemodialysis Advancement Initiative (KHAI) Task Force Team (TFT) to establish a sustainable medical system for hemodialysis. The initiative was announced during the 2026 Integrated Academic Conference held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center.

Led by Chairperson Choi Bum-soon, the TFT aims to address rising costs for labor, medical materials, and facility maintenance, alongside the challenges of an aging patient population and increasing chronic comorbidities. The group will conduct objective analyses of actual hemodialysis costs, evaluate the adequacy of current medical reimbursement rates, and perform international comparisons of cost and reimbursement structures across different countries.

Key objectives include ensuring the stable supply of essential medical devices and materials, such as dialyzers, membranes, and water purification equipment. The TFT also plans to discuss improvements in patient safety, infection control, medical staffing, and the integration of new dialysis technologies into clinical practice.
