Korićanske stijene massacre commemorated as survivors seek truth

Commemorations were held at Korićanske stijene to mark the 34th anniversary of the massacre in which 224 detainees from Prijedor camps were killed. According to Seid Omerović, president of the Union of Prisoners of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the victims were executed through a combination of shooting, being thrown into a ravine, and subsequent gunfire directed at those attempting to survive the fall.

Omerović highlighted a major ongoing project conducted in collaboration with the University of Sydney and King's College London to digitize 160,000 handwritten documents and records created by camp detainees. This initiative aims to provide scientific and research-based evidence of the truth within the next three to five years.

Survivors emphasized the need for institutional support, including the establishment of an official memorial and legal regulations regarding the status of camp detainees. They noted that while direct witnesses are decreasing, there is significant interest among younger generations in learning the facts to build a healthy foundation for the state.
