Korinna Schumann advocates for public healthcare at European Forum Alpbach

At the European Forum Alpbach 2026, Austrian Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection Korinna Schumann discussed the future of healthcare, focusing on hospitals and primary care. Schumann emphasized the need to relieve pressure on hospitals by expanding primary care and specialist centers to ensure sustainable healthcare, particularly in less densely populated regions.

The discussion also covered the potential of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and the importance of digital solutions, citing Estonia as a model for building trust in health data management. Additionally, Schumann highlighted the necessity of securing European healthcare and increasing independence in the production of essential medicines.
