Korlantas Polri: Students account for 39.48% of traffic accidents

Data from Korlantas Polri reveals that students and university students account for 39.48% of traffic accidents in 2024, a figure slightly higher than the 25–55 age group at 39.26%. Throughout 2024, there were more than 152,000 traffic accidents, resulting in over 27,000 fatalities. Motorcycles were the most frequent vehicle involved, with over 200,000 units recorded.

Sri Indira Purnamawati of Polda Metro Jaya noted that many accidents stem from preventable risky behaviors, such as failing to wear helmets, speeding, and using mobile phones while driving. To combat this, authorities are focusing on massive and sustainable education, utilizing mediums that resonate with younger generations, including short films and social media.
