Korneliya Ninova criticizes transfer of in vitro fund to NHIF

Korneliya Ninova, leader of the Unbreakable Bulgaria party, has criticized the government's plan to transfer the in vitro fund to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). Ninova stated that this move threatens the reproductive hopes of over 150,000 couples facing fertility issues.

She argued that the current in vitro fund operates with only seven employees and that merging it with the NHIF would allow these funds to be absorbed into the general budget of the insurance fund. Ninova noted that a similar model was used in 2013, which resulted in funding uncertainties. The proposal has faced opposition from reproductive medicine specialists, the ‘I Want a Baby’ Foundation, and the Bulgarian Association for Sterility and Reproductive Health.
