Korogi Sports Park faces facility concerns for 2026 Asian Games cricket

Concerns are mounting regarding the cricket facilities at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin City, Japan, which is designated as the venue for the 2026 Asian Games. The tournament, scheduled to run from September 19 to October 4, 2026, features both men’s and women’s Twenty20 International competitions.

Reports indicate that the venue, originally a baseball ground, lacks adequate infrastructure. Issues cited include an untested pitch and rudimentary dressing rooms and washrooms that are reportedly located approximately 500 meters from the playing area, with some descriptions suggesting the use of makeshift tents.

Major cricketing nations, including India and Pakistan, have expressed reservations. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has considered the possibility of sending a second-string team due to these concerns, the selection committee has reportedly picked a full-strength Indian squad led by Shreyas Iyer. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC), led by Mohsin Naqvi, is facing scrutiny over its oversight of the arrangements as the tournament approaches.
