Korps Politie Suriname conducts safety initiatives and traffic checks
The Korps Politie Suriname (KPS) has conducted various public engagement and safety initiatives. On September 9, 2026, the police force hosted an educational day for 77 children of employees from the Ministry of Justice and Security. Held at the Police Academy, the event allowed children to interact with departments including Public Relations, Youth Affairs, the Narcotics Brigade, and the K9 unit. The day included demonstrations by the K9 unit and the Motor Surveillance Service, concluding with a performance by the KPS drum band.
In a separate safety effort, the KPS carried out intensive traffic controls in Paramaribo between August 24 and August 30, 2026, as part of the National Increased Safety Holiday Plan 2026. During these operations in the Flora, Munder, Geyersvlijt, and Centrum districts, officers inspected 632 vehicles. The checks focused on vehicle documentation, insurance, inspections, and lighting safety. A total of 30 fines were issued during this period.
