Kosaka Railway Rail Park to host restored diesel car event
The Kosaka Railway Rail Park in Akita Prefecture will host a special commemorative photography event on November 7, 2026, featuring the diesel car ‘Kiha 2101’. This marks the first time the vehicle has entered the Kosaka Station platform since passenger services were discontinued 32 years ago.
The restoration of the vehicle's exterior took approximately one and a half years, a collaborative effort between the town, a preservation society, and the park. While the car has been on display inside the depot since its completion in May, this event aims to recreate the atmosphere of its original era of operation.
In addition to the vehicle display, the event will include exhibitions of historical photographs from the Kiha 2100 series era and the sale of railway merchandise. A separate community event, a large-scale group photo session aiming for 100 participants, is also scheduled to take place at the former Kosaka Station.
