Kosciuszko National Park to close sections for feral animal control

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has announced temporary closures for parts of Kosciuszko National Park. The closures will affect key walking tracks and huts, with restrictions in place each weekday from 5:45 am to 8:15 pm between Monday, 9 November and Friday, 27 November 2026.

According to a NPWS spokesperson, the operation aims to target feral deer and pigs to prevent environmental damage to waterways, native habitats, and threatened species. These specific November closures are separate from ongoing efforts regarding the culling of wild horses in the park.

Jack Gough, CEO of the Invasive Species Council, noted that feral animals like horses, deer, and pigs have significant impacts on catchment health, native wildlife, and vegetation. He emphasized the need for ongoing management to prevent the westward spread of deer species.
