KOSDAQ shows mixed swing: semiconductor equipment shares jump, battery stocks fall

South Korea's KOSDAQ index recorded a divergent performance among its top‑cap stocks. Semiconductor equipment firms led the gains, with Juseong Engineering soaring 19.1% and Yujin Tech climbing 14.7%, while other chip‑tool makers showed varied moves. In contrast, battery‑related companies lagged, as EcoPro dropped about 10% and EcoPro BM fell nearly 8%, highlighting weakness in the second‑battery sector.

Trading activity was also uneven. Madup topped volume with 53.9 million shares changing hands, its price up 93%, and Yujin Enterprise near its daily limit up 29.9%. KBI Metal and Nam‑Hwa Industry similarly surged toward their upper price limits. Meanwhile, stocks such as StradVision and Mobile Appliance slipped sharply, and other semiconductor equipment names like Wonik IPS and HPSP faced modest declines.

Overall, the market displayed a split between strong demand for chip‑tool producers and subdued sentiment for battery makers, with the day's price direction likely to be shaped by continued buying pressure on the high‑volume gainers and profit‑taking on the lagging sectors.
