Kosei Yoshida prepares for return to starting role after surgery
Orix Buffaloes pitcher Kosei Yoshida is preparing to transition back to a starting role following his recovery from Tommy John surgery. During a recent test appearance in the Miyazaki Phoenix League, Yoshida pitched five innings, allowing two runs while recording nine strikeouts.
This marks his first start in approximately four years. Yoshida noted that his velocity reached up to 150 km/h and expressed confidence in his improved strikeout rate and expanded repertoire of breaking balls. Despite facing some elbow discomfort during the season, he believes his ability to pitch in high-pressure relief situations has enhanced his overall skill set.
Orix manager Mamoru Kishida welcomed the move, stating that the team values having multiple reliable starters. Yoshida is scheduled for another test appearance on October 14 against Lotte, which will serve as a critical indicator of his readiness for the starting rotation next season.
