Koshien baseball tournament highlights student dedication and community spirit

The summer high school baseball tournament at Koshien features diverse stories of dedication and community support. At Yokote High School, the brass band performs a unique theme song, ‘Fight oh! YOKOTE’, which was provided by a composer with ties to Yokote City to boost player morale.

Chiben Wakayama High School’s cheering squad, composed largely of middle school students, demonstrates a deep bond of trust with the baseball team. Meanwhile, the Aozora Special Needs School baseball team, whose members all have mild intellectual disabilities, competed in their third summer tournament. Led by third-year ace Iwamoto Taishi, the team focused on personal growth and teamwork. Despite a hard-fought game that ended in a 0-20 loss, the players expressed gratitude for how the sport helped them develop social skills and resilience.
