Kosmos Festival celebrates democracy and culture in Chemnitz

The Kosmos Festival, a cultural and democracy-focused event in Chemnitz, Germany, is celebrating its fifth edition. The festival features approximately 250 program points, ranging from discussions on artificial intelligence and democracy to DJ sets, sports activities like boxing and Zumba, and various interactive projects.

Originally established as a response to right-wing extremist unrest in Chemnitz in 2018, the festival grew out of the ‘#Wirsindmehr’ concert. Organizers aim to promote democratic values through engaging, non-didactic formats. Highlights for the current event include free concerts featuring artists such as 01099 and Alexander Marcus, as well as new formats like a revue and the ‘Young Voices’ project.

The festival expects tens of thousands of visitors, following previous years that drew between 70,000 and 115,000 people. To accommodate the crowds, regional transport services have scheduled additional trains and buses connecting Chemnitz to Leipzig, Dresden, Zwickau, and other nearby towns.
