Kosonen and Tervo lead Finnish hammer throw prospects in major final

Finnish hammer throwers Silja Kosonen and Krista Tervo enter the hammer throw final as top contenders. Tervo holds a season best of 77.35 meters, though she has recently faced health concerns. Kosonen has recorded a season best of 76.41 meters.

They face stiff international competition. World record holder and multi-time Olympic champion Anita Wlodarczyk, despite a difficult qualifying round of 68.70 meters, remains a major threat. Other finalists with throws exceeding 75 meters include Italy’s Sara Fantini and Denmark’s Katrine Koch Jacobsen.

Kosonen, 23, has established herself as a consistent performer in major championship finals since 2022, frequently placing in the top five. Analysts view her as both an established success and a long-term prospect for European athletics.
