Kosovo Assembly leadership convenes first meeting of 11th legislature

The leadership of the Kosovo Assembly has convened its first meeting of the 11th legislature. A primary focus of the session is the proposal to amend the Law on Specialized Chambers. Bedri Hamza, leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), announced that the party will request the legislative procedure for this amendment, noting that they respect the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the assembly's constitution.

Following the meeting, PDK Deputy Arian Tahiri called for political unity regarding the legal initiative concerning former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Tahiri stated that Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu has pledged to communicate personally with Prime Minister Albin Kurti to ensure the initiative is handled with the consensus of all parties. The PDK emphasizes that the bill is a matter of national importance related to the KLA and the state of Kosovo, rather than a partisan initiative.

The meeting also addressed the formation of parliamentary committees and the review of the Assembly's 2025 expenditure report. This follows a Constitutional Court ruling that the assembly's constitution occurred after the legal deadline, a delay that impacts the timelines for electing a president and forming a government.
