The Kosovo Assembly has adopted a declaration expressing “deep concern” regarding the first-instance verdict issued by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague against four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). The verdict, which sentenced Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi to prison terms of 25, 25, 13, and 18 years respectively, included a finding that the defendants shared a “common criminal purpose.” The Assembly officially declared this finding to be “unacceptable.”

The declaration was passed with 99 votes in favor, receiving support from major political parties including the Self-Determination Movement, PDK, LDK, and AAK. The Assembly called for the development of a coordinated state strategy involving legal, institutional, and diplomatic actions to protect the “historical truth” of the Kosovo liberation war.

Deputy Speaker Ardian Gola expressed confidence that the Appeals Panel would overturn the convictions if international justice standards are strictly applied. Meanwhile, Përparim Rama, the Mayor of Pristina, emphasized the importance of institutional unity, stating that Kosovo “spoke with one voice” on a matter concerning the very foundations of the state.
