Gazivode lake demolition continues, 17 structures razed
Public enterprise Ibar‑Lepenac, assisted by Kosovo police, has demolished a total of 17 structures around Gazivode (Ujman) lake, including the well‑known motel “Jezero”. The latest demolition occurred on 30 July 2026, when workers entered the motel, forced the owners Jordan and Aleksandar Jakšić to leave, and began removing equipment. The owners say the motel was built on land expropriated by Ibar‑Lepenac and that they have filed a lawsuit; a court hearing on the case is scheduled for 12 August 2026.
Acting Minister of Environment Fitore Pacoli announced that the demolition programme will continue without compromise and will expand to other parts of Kosovo. The Serbian‑Kurdish family of the Jakšićs has lodged a criminal complaint against Ibar‑Lepenac’s director Faruk Mujki, alleging threats and unlawful expropriation. The European Union, together with the German and British embassies, has called for an immediate halt to the removals, warning of rule‑of‑law concerns. Kosovo authorities maintain that the structures were built illegally on public land owned by the enterprise.
The demolitions have already removed numerous holiday homes and villas, with earlier counts ranging from 16 to 17 buildings. The actions have sparked criticism from local Serbian communities and NGOs, who describe the campaign as part of a broader policy targeting the Serb population in northern Kosovo.
