Hashim Thaçi and KLA leaders await verdict in The Hague FAST-MOVING

The Specialised Chambers in The Hague are expected to deliver a verdict on September 16, 2026, regarding former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi.

The prosecution alleges the four individuals were part of a joint criminal undertaking involving unlawful detention, torture, persecution, murder, and forced disappearance aimed at political opponents, Serbian collaborators, or KLA rivals. The trial has significant political weight in Kosovo, with local leaders like Bedri Hamza warning that an unjust decision would be a blow to the nation's history and dignity.

American envoy Richard Grenell has commented on the case, claiming there is bipartisan support in the United States for Thaçi. Grenell alleged that Thaçi was arrested by Jack Smith while traveling to Washington, D.C., to negotiate an economic normalization agreement between Kosovo and Serbia with Donald Trump. He further noted that American Democrats testified in support of Thaçi, stating the allegations were false.
