Kosovo Budget Committee meeting fails over anti-money laundering bill

The Kosovo Budget Committee meeting failed to reach a quorum during discussions regarding a draft law to amend and supplement the Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism. The session was disrupted by disagreements among deputies concerning the presentation of the bill, specifically the absence of the relevant minister.

Mergim Lushtaku of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) opposed proceeding without the minister present, citing established parliamentary practice. Conversely, Arbërie Nagavci of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) argued for the importance of the legislation, noting it could facilitate 55 million euros for the state budget, and proposed that a deputy minister or secretary could present the bill instead.

The debate also extended to procedural concerns, with Teuta Haxhiu of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) criticizing the legislative process and alleging that certain laws have been returned by the Constitutional Court due to procedural violations.
