Kosovo Constitutional Court Receives Serbian List Appeal Over Reserved Parliamentary Seat

The Serbian List, the largest Serb party in Kosovo, has lodged an appeal with the Kosovo Constitutional Court challenging a Supreme Court ruling that confirmed the June 7 parliamentary election results. The party disputes the allocation of the tenth seat reserved for the Serb community, claiming that the winning candidate, Nenad Rashiq of the Freedom, Justice and Survival Party (ZSPO), secured votes in areas with little or no Serb population and therefore should be disqualified.

Kosovo’s institutions, including the Supreme Court, have rejected the Serbian List’s allegations, stating there is no evidence of vote manipulation. The Constitutional Court is expected to interpret the constitutional guarantee of reserved seats and decide whether the current electoral framework adequately protects minority representation. The appeal comes ahead of the constitutional session scheduled for August 6, when new parliamentary institutions will be formed under Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s leadership.
