Kosovo cyberattacks may target critical infrastructure, warns expert

Arben Fetoshi, director of the Octopus Institute, has warned that recent cyberattacks against Kosovar institutions may serve as precursors to larger strikes targeting the country’s critical infrastructure, including energy, water, and telecommunications.

Fetoshi noted that while the Kosovo Police have frequently identified DDoS attacks aimed at paralyzing websites, more advanced targeting could involve espionage, data manipulation, and information gathering. He suggested that these cyber operations, combined with other hybrid tactics, are intended to destabilize Kosovo.

According to Fetoshi, these activities may be part of a coordinated strategy involving Serbia and supported by Russia. He cited the pro-Russian group KillNet as a previous actor behind such activities. Beyond data theft, the goal of these attacks may be to incite panic and erode public trust in Kosovar institutions.
