Kosovo launches intensive dairy inspections amid palm‑oil and milk‑powder adulteration findings

The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation (MINTI) announced that from 6 August 2026 it will carry out intensive inspections of milk and dairy‑product composition and labeling throughout Kosovo’s supply chain. The inspections are intended to enforce accurate ingredient declarations and protect consumers.

An expanded control operation coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development and the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) was conducted between April and July 2026. Out of 495 samples taken from producers, importers, distributors and retail points, 471 were fully analysed, uncovering 93 non‑conformities. The most frequent issue was the presence of undeclared palm oil, identified in 46 cases, followed by other undeclared ingredients such as milk powder, plant oils and starches. Products that fail the checks will be withdrawn from the market and responsible operators may face administrative fines and other legal penalties.

The Kosovo Dairy Industry Association criticised the limited public disclosure of the full laboratory reports and demanded that detailed evidence be released; otherwise it warned it would halt milk collection. The domestic dairy producer Vita also responded, insisting its products comply with the law and urging the ministries to publish the analysis results promptly. Both the authorities and the industry emphasized the need for transparent monitoring to ensure food safety and fair competition.
