Kosovo election results contested as candidates demand recount

Two Democratic Party of Kosovo candidates, Bekim Haxhiu and Qëndrim Kryeziu, have submitted an appeal to the Panel for Electoral Appeals and Submissions (PZAP) requesting a recount of the June 7 parliamentary election results. They argue that a sample re‑count of 5,201 votes for the PDK revealed 221 votes incorrectly recorded, producing an error margin of about 4.25 %—far larger than the 102‑vote difference that determines the seat they seek. The Central Election Commission (KQZ) confirmed that the deadline for filing complaints ends on June 29 and said it will await PZAP and Supreme Court rulings before certifying the final results.

Amid the pending certification, Alliance MP Besnik Tahiri warned that Kosovo risks slipping back into an institutional deadlock if political parties, including the leading Vetëvendosje, do not begin negotiations on forming new institutions such as the presidency and government. Tahiri stressed that his party will not block the process but emphasised the need for a clear resolution to avoid a repeat of past blockages.
