Kosovo election win fuels academic debate on geopolitical future

On 7 June, early parliamentary elections in Kosovo recorded a 35 % turnout and gave the ruling Vetëvendosje movement led by Albin Kurti a decisive 42.91 % of the vote, ending more than a year of political deadlock. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas welcomed the result, urging Kosovo’s political leaders to act constructively, resume dialogue with Serbia and accelerate the country’s European integration. EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos also congratulated Kurti and highlighted the need for cooperation among parties.

A few weeks later, the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo hosted a scientific conference titled “Geopolitical Changes and Challenges for the State of Kosovo”. Organized by academic Arsim Bajrami, the event gathered scholars from Kosovo, Albania and North Macedonia to examine shifting international dynamics, security issues, Euro‑Atlantic integration prospects, and the protection of Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Speakers called for strengthening constitutional, institutional and diplomatic capacities, emphasizing the role of scholarly analysis in shaping public policy.
