Kosovo Emergency Agency Warns of Fire Risk, Municipalities Call for Emergency Fund

The Kosovo Emergency Management Agency (AME) has warned that the upcoming heat wave greatly increases the risk of uncontrolled fires in fields and forests. It urged farmers and the public to avoid burning crop residues, to keep fire‑extinguishing equipment ready, and to refrain from lighting fires in open areas during peak temperatures.

At the same time, municipal leaders across Kosovo have asked the central government to establish an Emergency Fund to cover damages from storms, floods and other natural disasters. Association of Municipalities of Kosovo chair Sazan Ibrahimi and Rahovec mayor Smajl Latifi said local budgets lack the capacity to respond quickly, and a dedicated fund would enable faster compensation for residents affected by the 2022 hailstorm and future events.
