Kosovo environmental inspectorate halts seven quarries

The Environmental Inspectorate in Kosovo has halted operations at seven quarries for violating legal and environmental regulations. Additionally, three other operators have been fined a total of 7,000 euros following inspections in several regions, including Gjilan, Han i Elezit, Shtime, Suhareka, Mitrovica, Viti, Lipjan, and Prishtina.

Acting Minister of Environment Fitore Pacolli stated that the verification process began in March, providing operators a 15-day window to prove compliance with environmental standards. Out of approximately 200 operators who submitted documentation, an external commission reviewed the files in April and found that a significant number failed to meet legal criteria. Pacolli noted that in August alone, work was suspended at 16 different quarries. She emphasized that environmental protection remains a priority and that inspections will continue to ensure compliance.
