Kosovo faces budget concerns amid rising public spending
Economic experts and academics have raised concerns regarding the allocation of Kosovo's state budget, noting a lack of long-term vision and an orientation toward electoral purposes. Data indicates that state expenditures in Kosovo have increased by 116 percent over the last decade. Specifically, budget spending rose by approximately 50 percent over the last five years, climbing from 2.3 billion euros in 2020 to a projected 3.49 billion euros in 2025.
Critics highlight that while social protection received 955 million euros last year, capital investments—considered a primary driver of economic development—saw a decrease of 25 million euros. Experts suggest the current budget orientation fails to adequately address the economic crisis, noting that the rapid budget growth has not outpaced inflation, which stood at approximately 7.8 percent.
