Kosovo's Albin Kurti seeks coalition as PDK rejects partnership, risking fresh elections

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated he is ready to cooperate with opposition parties to elect a president and form a new government after the recent parliamentary election, citing the need to avoid another vote. He warned that with the Assembly’s 60‑day deadline, “we need an agreement or a co‑government or a consensual candidate… otherwise we may face another election.” Analysts note that the historically low voter turnout signals public frustration and that a lack of consensus could trigger fresh elections.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) ruled out any coalition with Vetëvendosje. Party member Mërgim Lushtaku said, “PDK‑ja s’duhet të jetë e gatshme… to discuss any position with Vetëvendosje,” arguing that the current government has divided the electorate and that new polls are likely. The opposing stances heighten the risk of political deadlock and a possible repeat of the election cycle.
