Kosovo faces political deadlock after June 7 elections, warns of institutional fallout

The Central Election Commission is technically ready to announce the final results of Kosovo's June 7 parliamentary elections. Preliminary figures show the Vetëvendosje movement (LVV) winning 42.96 % of the vote and securing 53 of the 120 parliamentary seats, a decline from the previous election. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) follows with about 21 % and 22 seats, while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo each obtain around 18 and 7 seats respectively. Nine of the ten seats reserved for the Serb community went to the Serb List, backed by Belgrade, and one seat went to the Freedom, Justice and Survival party.

Prime Minister and LVV leader Albin Kurti has said that the electoral process must be concluded before steps toward forming a new government and electing a president can begin. Gazmend Halilaj, a member of the opposition "Guxo" movement, warned that if political parties fail to reach a consensus, Kosovo could face prolonged institutional blockades, delayed decision‑making, setbacks to reforms and economic development, and even a repeat election cycle.
