Kosovo government to resubmit Civil Code to Parliament
The Kosovo government is expected to return the new Civil Code to Parliament for consideration. This follows the failure to pass the legislation in 2022 due to opposition regarding provisions for civil unions between persons of the same sex.
Under the legislative program of the Kurti 4 government, the bill will undergo revision before being sent to the Assembly, reopening political debate on the matter. Despite efforts by Prime Minister Albin Kurti to secure votes, the legislation has faced delays for four years.
Political reactions remain divided. Labinotë Demi-Murtezi of the Vetëvendosje Movement stated that officials must first observe what changes are made during the revision process. Conversely, Eman Rrahmani of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) warned of increased opposition if the bill returns with the same content as the 2022 version, urging deputies to reflect on the responsibilities of their vote.
